Reaction

React with one emoji.

An emoji reaction on a message the customer sent you, like a tap-and-hold reaction in the app. The sample sends ❤️.

to and the message ids are n8n expressions that read the WhatsApp Trigger right before this node ($json.messages[0].from / .id). For a manual test, replace them with a number and a message id.

The JSON body

{  "messaging_product": "whatsapp",  "recipient_type": "individual",  "to": "{{ $json.messages[0].from }}",  "type": "reaction",  "reaction": {    "message_id": "{{ $json.messages[0].id }}",    "emoji": "❤️"  }}

Limits & common mistakes

  1. emoji takes the emoji itself or a Unicode escape such as \uD83D\uDE00.

  2. The target must be a message the customer sent you, less than 30 days old, in this chat and not deleted; otherwise error 131009 and nothing is delivered.

  3. You can't react to a reaction.

  4. You only get a "sent" status webhook, never delivered or read.

  5. A reaction can't carry context (no quoting).

How to set up the credential in n8n
  1. In n8n, open Credentials → Create credential and pick Header Auth.
  2. Fill in the two fields:
    NameAuthorization
    ValueBearer <your token>
  3. Open the pasted node. Authentication is already Generic → Header Auth; choose the credential you just made.
  4. Use a System User token from Meta Business settings; the token on the API Setup page expires within hours.Source (opens in a new tab)Source (opens in a new tab)

Your token lives in n8n only. I never ask for it.

Don't have time to build it? I'll build it for you.
